Former television producer Marla Ginsburg is the creator and founder of MarlaWynne Fashion, an exclusive fashion and jewelry line for HSN. Marla produced many television shows including “The Highlander” and “La Femme Nikita” just to name a few, before changing her career and going into the world of fashion. MarlaWynne Fashions is now the 5th largest selling brand on HSN.
I met Marla today at The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club for breakfast and here is our exclusive interview, check it out!!
1-Tell us about the MarlaWynne Collection exclusively for HSN?
I lived in Paris for many years and learned that I don’t want the clothes to wear you, I want you to wear the clothes. I want my clothes to be a canvas for you. I want people to look at you and say: Wow, you look great!! Instead of saying: Great outfit!!. I want you to be the star. My clothes are comfortable. We focus on easy elegance that travels. I am obsessed with quality and in every collection I always like to do a drama piece whether is a jacket, a sweater or a great scarf. I am very hands on, I design all the clothes that you see on my collections on HSN.
2-You also have a jewelry line, tell us about the inspiration for your jewelry?
I started making jewelry when I was a TV producer in my trailer as a way to relax and calm me down, it was like my knitting. The first piece I designed was this ring that I am wearing, is a family heirloom. I wanted my jewelry to work with the DNA of my brand which is that I want women to be their own designer. My jewelry is architectural, elegant, bold, strong, clean and organic.
3-How has travelling the world and living in Paris influenced your personal style?
While traveling the world throughout Asia and Europe, one of the things I noticed is that women in those parts of the world own their personal style without apologies.
They use the basics to build and layer their personalities. I also learned that style is something that you have or you don’t have. Fashion improves your personal style and I really feel that women are unique and authentic. Just because it fits, it doesn’t mean that you should wear it.
4-What is next for the MarlaWynne brand, what are your future plans?
I have the privilege to serve the core HSN customer but now I want to reach beyond it and reach out to younger women, the plus size market, as well as the Latino and African American market. I have a very democratic brand. I feel like I have the sizes and fit to cater to that audience. Many people don’t know that HSN carries sizes 2 to 3x. I also want to continue to push the envelope and find more ways to improve my quality and keep my prices affordable.
5-We always like to end our interviews by asking our guest for a favorite quote or words of wisdom, what is yours?
“If you follow all the rules you'll miss all the fun”
